I began teaching when I moved to New Mexico seven years ago right out of college. I graduated from Utah State University with degrees in History Education, Special Education, and Liberal Arts & Sciences, with minors in Portuguese and Classics. This is my third year at Southwest Secondary Learning Center. I believe that every person is capable of learning, and that learning enriches our experiences, enlivens our souls, deepens our passions, opens our opportunities, and empowers our influence. I strive to create a safe learning environment where students are treated fairly and are expected to achieve, and where open-mindedness and respect for others is always emphasized.
Courses
Several core social studies courses are offered at SSLC, including World Geography, World History, United States History, New Mexico History, Government, and Economics. We also offer Middle School New Mexico/World History and Middle School American History to our 7th- and 8th-grade students. These courses have been carefully and fully aligned to and even exceed national and state standards and benchmarks. My favorite courses to teach are World History and World Geography.
