Flight School Coordinator
Flight SchoolMy name is Lee Truitt and I am thrilled to be part of the team at Southwest Secondary Learning Center. I have been a pilot for 13 years and have been working in the aviation industry for my entire adult life. As a pilot instructor I have over 2000 hours of flight and ground instruction given and my aviation experience spans Fixed Based Operators, Flight Schools, Government Agencies, and now, the Charter school system! I eagerly look forward to working with this exceptional group of young adults in helping them accomplish their dreams of flight. I come from a family of educators so I feel that SSLC is the perfect place to share my love of flying with the next generation of future aviators.
I believe aviation is the perfect place to see the concepts of the classroom at work in the real world. As a part of SSLC’s aviation program, students are able to make the connection between math, science, history and many other subjects in their daily lives in a fun, safe and rewarding atmosphere. I believe that young people excel in a challenging environment. Aviation offers many rewarding challenges and benefits that will serve them as they prepare for college and the workforce. Even if professional aviator is not in the career sights of a student, a pilot certificate is the ticket to a special group of individuals with universally recognized skill and ability. With me, not only will students learn the basics of airmanship and the underlying academic principles of flight, but they will also learn how to be citizens of their community and stewards of their disciplines.
I currently, while not aviating, am spending lots of time with my new baby son, learning the ins and outs of amateur astronomy, and listening to a wide variety of eclectic music. I hold a BA in Spanish from the University of New Mexico and am entertaining returning for a Master’s degree.
