Southwest Primary
Southwest Primary Learning Center is the elementary school program within the Southwest Learning Centers. The students, parents, and teachers work together to design individual growth plans for a personalized curriculum. Southwest Primary Learning Center uses a variety of instructional methods including small and large group instruction, hands-on activities, field trips, and project-based learning. Computers are used to support classroom instruction.The school’s 4th through 6th grade students scored above the 90th percentile in reading and above average in math as measured by the New Mexico Standards Based Assessment. Collaboration and teaming allow for flexible scheduling, flexible student groups, and one-to-one instruction to produce this high level of student achievement.
As a part of the Southwest Learning Centers, the school has benefited from the center’s knowledgeable, practical, and experienced leadership. This staff has been successful procuring additional funds from a variety of sources that enhance and expand the educational program opportunities provided for the students. The school enjoys the center’s new facilities and state-of-the-art technology.
Efforts are being made to increase parent involvement and community support for Southwest Primary Learning Center. As with all the Southwest Learning Center schools, parents have access to student progress reports, available any time, through a web-based electronic grade book. Satisfaction with this newly established charter school is high.
