Sharon Huber
Language Arts InstructorI have been teaching Language Arts and Social Studies at Southwest Intermediate Learning Center since its opening 4 years ago; in addition, I am the IEP specialist for all three schools at the Southwest Learning Centers. I graduated from Washington State University with a degree in Special Education/Regular Education, and have taught in a variety of settings, including 3rd grade, 7th & 8th grade regular education, middle school special education, and a high school Traumatic Brain Injury program. We utilize a combination of traditional classroom settings for Language Arts, Math, Spanish and Physical Education, an on-line program for 7th grade science and 8th grade science and social studies, and Biweekly Community Based Activities to explore New Mexico State History and interdisciplinary connections to curriculum within the community.
My personal philosophy of education is directly aligned to our mission statement of preparing students to become self-motivated, self-controlled, independent, competent and lifelong learners and productive members of society. Our integrated curriculum and collaborative team effort allow for a variety of teaching and learning styles in order to equip our students with the reading, writing, mathematical, technological and problem-solving skills necessary for success in secondary, post-secondary and personal career choices.
