Students participated in workshops and practice sessions and performed at the Showcase before competing at POL and English Expo on the weekend.

SLC Poetry Out Loud winner, Triniti Pankuch placed second at the state event in Santa Fe in February of 2011. She was awarded some poetry books and $100. The school also received $200 to purchase poetry books. Contact the school for details.

In 2009, Junior Danielle Turner placed second in the New Mexico competition!

The National Endowment for the Arts and the Poetry Foundation have partnered with State Arts Agencies of the United States to support the expansion of Poetry Out Loud, which encourages the nation's youth to learn about great poetry through memorization and performance. This exciting program helps students master public speaking skills, build self-confidence, and learn about their literary heritage.

Participants compete at the classroom level, school level, regional, and state level with the state winner competing at the finals in Washington D.C.
