Admissions.
The letter of intent and how the lottery system works. The Southwest Primary, Southwest Intermediate, and Southwest Secondary Learning Center are magnet schools for students who choose to enroll. Students are admitted on a lottery system. Students wishing to be included in the lottery must complete a Letter of Intent.
All three Learning Centers' enrollment policies prohibit discrimination on the basis of disability, race, creed, color, gender, national origin, religion, or need for special education services. Southwest Learning Centers' set forth the following enrollment policies. These policies are necessary as enrollment interest often exceeds the enrollment capacity of each Learning Center. If it is the intent of the parents to enroll their student in one of the Learning Centers, the parent must submit an electronic or written Letter of Intent for each student to ensure their child will be included in the lottery.
As per New Mexico State statute the lottery will be governed by the following rules:
1. If a student is chosen in one of the school's lotteries and there is a sibling who is eligible to attend that same school, the sibling will be given preference for the following school year.
2. The lottery will be conducted by April 30th of each year.
It is understood that students selected to enroll in Southwest Primary, Southwest Intermediate, or Southwest Secondary Learning Center will be able to re-enroll for the following school year in the same school provided, the family has completed and returned by the deadline a "Letter of Intent to Return" and, the student is in good standing at the school.
Parents interested in moving their child to one of the other schools must complete a new written or electronic Letter of Intent. Current students wishing to move from one school to another school are not guaranteed a position in the new school and must complete a new Letter of Intent and go through the lottery process.
